Mathieu Gaumond - 2010 Winning Essay
In recent years, awareness of environmental issues is more present in the population. Being a student in mechanical engineering at the University of Sherbrooke, I would make a career in the field of wind energy in Québec.
Specifically, I want to specialise in calculating aerodynamic wind farms in order to maximize the effectiveness of this underused Canadian energy source. To achieve this objective, I have already taken steps to begin a masters as soon as September 2010 in University of Copenhagen in Denmark. That country is a leader in the field of wind power, I therefore intend to learn new knowledge that I can then apply on return to Quebec.
In my bachelors, I have always worked very hard to maintain excellent notes. Indeed, without monetary support of scholarships that I have obtained I would have not been able to continue my studies. Indicative, my current cumulative average is 4.19 on 4.3. Also I have been involved for more than a year in an after-school technical project whose objective is the design and manufacture of 1.4 kW wind turbine. Thus, this project gave me much knowledge which will be utilized for my future career.
In closing, I wish to achieve during the summer a four month internship in the laboratory research on wind in communities northern of Montreal. I am thus establishing contacts with organizations working in this area in Canada.
